Electronic Fog

Electronic Fog
site-specific performance installation at Titanik

Collaboration with Allison Halter

Electronic Fog was an immersive installation-performance created in residence at Titanik, in Turku, Finland. Using fog machines, a PA system, radios, televisions, typewriters, turntables, and telephones, the piece explored the phenomenon of electromagnetic fields overlapping and the resulting "fog" that distorts perception. The performance area was split into two sections: a small stage and a "lobby" where Nordic death metal records were continuously crossfaded. Two performers, seated at a desk, made calm, hypnotic announcements reminiscent of airplane or airport patter. Occasionally, a strobe light activated and the room filled with fog, adding to the disorienting atmosphere. Performers would occasionally leave their desks to interact with the electronics. The installation’s fog and sound enveloped the audience, reflecting our collective anxiety about the increasing digitization of our world and the challenge of seeing clearly through the metaphorical cloud.
