Dirt taken from the grave of Hungarian composer Rezső Seress, domed glass frame, satin, window shade, wood
Made possible by the Brin Jewish Arts Endowment.
Rezső Seress is the composer of the song “Gloomy Sunday”, legendarily known as the “Hungarian suicide song”. In 1933, when Seress composed the haunting melody we are familiar with today, he wrote lyrics about war and apocalypse. The original words project onto a frame containing dirt from his grave in Budapest.
